Limekiln Lane used to run down from Deanery Road (by the Cathederal) to the river at the bottom of Jacobs Wells Road. The name of Limekiln Lane was changed to 'St Georges Road' in 1862.

Dwellings here were likely low-status, linked to the Lime Kiln and Dock.

Limekiln Lane probably dates back to the late 17th century. The limekilns themselves would have dated from earlier date, possibly the mid-1600s.
