To Do
If Alexander Nimmo was 90 years old when he died in 1858, his birth would have been in 1768. This suggests he is the son of George Nimmo, Alexander b. 1768. A son Alexander of a George Nimmo died in 1841. Clarification needed |

Narrative
At the 1841 Census, the next-door neighbours of Alexander Nimmo & Mary Brown at Standburn were the octogenarians Alan Mair & Mary Fletcher. Alan Mair was convicted of the murder of Mary Fletcher in 1843 in their home in Candie End and sent to the gallows in Falkirk prison.
Narrative
Two Alexander Nimmos were born in Muiravonside at this time, one in 1771 and the other in 1768 either of whom may have married Mary Brown. The parents of the Alexander b. 1771 are John Nimmo & Isobel Johnston. George Nimmo & Mary Dougal are the parents of the Alexander b. 1768.
The record of Alexander's & Mary Brown's marriage could provide insight into which of the two it was, but, to date I have not found it. (It cannot be the marriage in September 1809 to Mary Simpson as recorded in other Ancestry.com trees, as 2 of the 8 children recorded to Alexander Nimmo & Mary Brown were born after 1809).
The 1841 & 1851 Census data suggest birth dates for Alexander about 1771 (rather than 1768), Mary being about 2 years older than Alexander. From the OPR, Mary Brown was indeed born in July 1768 in Muiravonside.
Furthermore, the names of their children fit perfectly with the Scottish naming traditions for a parentage of John Nimmo & Isobel Johnston, whereas they do not support the parentage of George Nimmo & Mary Dougal.
Conclusion: Mary Brown's husband was the Alexander born in 1771 to John Nimmo & Isobel Johnston, not the Alexander (b. 1768), son of George Nimmo & Mary Dougal.
